CodeShift Keyboard — Privacy Policy
1. Introduction and Your Consent
myGIGlife INC. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") publishes CodeShift Keyboard (the "App"), an on-screen keyboard for Android with a standard typing mode and a coding mode. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App does and does not collect, how the information it handles is used and stored, which third parties are involved, and your rights with respect to that information.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. This Privacy Policy forms part of the App's Terms of Use. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.
2. Definitions
In this Privacy Policy:
"Personal information" (called "personal data" in some laws) means information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked with a particular person, directly or indirectly, such as a name, an email address, or an IP address.
"Device" means the phone or tablet on which you use the App.
"App Store" means the Google Play Store.
"Third-party service" means a service that is not operated by us, such as the speech recognition service, Google Play, and the apps you type into, as described below.
3. Information We Collect
We do not collect personal information through the App. A keyboard handles everything you type, so we want to be direct: what you type is processed on your device only and goes to the app you are typing in. The App has no user accounts, logins, or passwords, does not ask for your name or email address, and has no servers of its own.
The App does not have permission to use the internet. It cannot send what you type, your clipboard, or anything else off your device. We do not collect, log, or monitor device identifiers, advertising identifiers, contacts, photos, location, your text messages, usage analytics, crash reports, or any other data from your device or about you. The App does not use cookies, sessions, tracking pixels, or similar tracking technologies, shows no advertising, and contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking software.
One optional feature, the microphone key, involves a device permission, described in Section 4. Sections 5 and 6 describe information the App keeps on your device. Section 7 describes what we receive if you choose to email us.
4. Voice Input and Autofill
The App asks for the Android microphone permission only so the microphone key can work, and only when you first tap that key. The App never listens in the background, and voice input is off unless you tap the key.
When you use voice input, your audio is handled by a speech recognition service that you already have on your device, not by us. Depending on your setting, the microphone key either hands dictation to Google voice typing, which opens in place of the keyboard, or uses the speech recognition service built into Android. Either service is operated by its provider (usually Google), may process your audio on its servers, and is governed by its own terms and privacy policy, not by this Privacy Policy. The App does not receive, record, or store your audio. It receives only the text the service returns and inserts it into the field you are typing in.
Voice input is optional. You can refuse or revoke the microphone permission at any time in your device's settings, and every other part of the App works without it.
Autofill suggestions. If you use an autofill service on Android 11 or newer (for example Google's), it can offer saved logins, one-time codes, and similar suggestions in the bar above the keys. The suggestions are created and drawn by your autofill service, not by the App. The App only shows them in the bar and passes your tap to the service; it cannot read, store, or send what they contain. Your autofill service handles that information under its own terms and privacy policy, and you can turn it off in Android settings.
5. Information Stored on Your Device
To work well, the App saves the following on your device, using your device operating system's standard local app storage:
- your settings, such as keyboard size, theme, layout, vibration, and typing options;
- the keyboard mode you last used in each app (stored with that app's package name), so the App can open in the same mode next time;
- words you choose to save to your dictionary with the check mark in the suggestion bar;
- pairs of words learned from your typing, used to suggest the next word, which are not saved while Incognito mode is on, in password fields, or in fields that ask keyboards not to learn;
- text you pin in the clipboard panel, which stays until you unpin it;
- a short fingerprint (a one-way hash, not the text itself) of clipboard items you have already seen, used so the same copied item is not offered as a paste suggestion twice, and the time you last used the keyboard; and
- for support, the most recent crash report and a short log of voice input events, which you can view and copy in the App's settings. These contain technical details, such as screen and keyboard size, and do not contain what you typed.
This information never leaves your device. It is not sent to us, to an App Store, or to any other third party, and we have no access to it, no ability to retrieve it, and no copy of it. The App turns off Android cloud backup, so it is not copied to your Google account either.
The clipboard history (Section 6) is kept in memory only and is not saved on your device.
You can remove saved words and pinned text in the App, and you can delete everything the App keeps by clearing the App's data in your device's settings or by uninstalling the App.
6. Clipboard, Spell Checking, and Password Fields
The App keeps a short history of items you copy so you can paste them again, and shows the newest one as a paste suggestion in the bar above the keys. This history is kept in the device's memory only, is lost when the keyboard process ends, and can be cleared at any time from the App's settings. Text you pin is stored as described in Section 5.
If you choose CodeShift Keyboard as your phone's spell checker in Android settings, Android passes the words you write in apps to the App so it can underline misspellings and suggest corrections. This happens on your device, against the App's built-in word list. The words are not saved, logged, or sent anywhere, and you can switch the spell checker back at any time in Android settings.
The App reads the clipboard only on your device while the keyboard is in use, to show the paste suggestion and clipboard history. It does not keep clipboard items, learn words, or show suggestions in password fields. Incognito mode, which you can turn on from the bar above the keys or in settings, stops the App from learning words or remembering clipboard items, and apps can request it for private tabs and chats.
7. Emails You Choose to Send Us
The App never sends anything to us by itself. If you contact us, or copy a crash report from the App's settings and send it to us, we receive what your email contains: your name and email address, your message, and anything you chose to paste into it.
We use an email only to read and answer it, to fix problems it reports, and to improve the App, and we keep it only as long as needed for those purposes or as required by law. We do not add you to any mailing list. You can ask us to delete an email you have sent us, as described in Section 18.
8. App Store Purchases
You obtain the App through the Google Play Store. Your purchase or download is processed entirely by Google using the Google account you use with Google Play, under Google's own terms and privacy policy. Google may provide us with limited transaction information (such as an anonymized or aggregated confirmation that a purchase was made) in accordance with those terms.
We do not independently collect, request, store, or have access to your Google account, payment card details, billing address, or any other personal account information; that information is held and governed by Google. We encourage you to review Google's privacy policy.
9. No Sale, Rental, Lease, or Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, lease, trade, or otherwise share or disclose personal information to any third party for any purpose, including marketing, advertising, or cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we do not collect personal information through the App, there is no such information in our possession to sell or share. Audio you choose to dictate goes from your device to the speech recognition service you use, not to us, as described in Section 4.
10. Data Retention
We keep no personal information from your use of the App, because none reaches us. Emails you choose to send us are kept only as described in Section 7.
Information the App saves on your device stays there until it is cleared as described in Section 5, or until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App. Third-party services keep what they receive under their own policies.
11. Sale of Business and Affiliates
If the Company, the App, or substantially all of the Company's assets are sold, merged, or otherwise transferred, including in a bankruptcy, reorganization, or similar proceeding, or if we share the App's operation with a company that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with the Company (an "affiliate"), any information we hold at that time may be transferred as part of that transaction, and this Privacy Policy will continue to apply to it unless you are notified otherwise and, where the law requires, asked for your consent. Today we hold no personal information from the App, apart from any emails you have chosen to send us.
12. Third-Party Services and Links
The App does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or social media software development kits. It works with these third-party services, each of which is operated independently of us and governed by its own terms and privacy policy, not by this Privacy Policy:
- the speech recognition service on your device, including Google voice typing, which handles audio when you use the microphone key (Section 4);
- your autofill service, if you use one, which supplies the suggestions described in Section 4;
- the apps you type into, which receive the text you type and handle it under their own policies; and
- Google Play, where you obtained the App (Section 8).
When you leave the App for another app or website, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party services, and we encourage you to read their policies.
13. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the App does not collect personal information from any user, this is true for users of every age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has sent us personal information, for example by email, please contact us as described in Section 21 and we will delete it.
14. Data Security
Because we do not collect personal information through the App and the App cannot connect to the internet, there is no central database of your personal information for us to secure or that could be compromised in a data breach on our end. We take reasonable measures to protect emails you send us.
Information saved on your device, as described in Section 5, is protected by the security features of your own device and operating system, and it is your responsibility to secure your device accordingly. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
15. International Use
The App is offered from the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, no personal information is collected, processed, or transferred by us in connection with your use of the App, regardless of your location. If you use voice input, your audio is handled by the speech recognition service you choose, under that provider's terms. If you email us from outside the United States, your email is received and handled in the United States.
16. Your Rights in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, data protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) give you rights over personal data that a company holds about you: to access it and receive a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its use, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you gave. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Because the App does not send us personal data, we hold nothing from your use of the App that we could give you, correct, delete, restrict, or transfer. The only personal data we may hold about you is an email you chose to send us, which we use to answer you on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to messages, and to which all of these rights apply.
The information the App keeps on your device is under your control: you can delete it at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App. You can withdraw consent to microphone access at any time in your device's settings.
17. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA and CalOPPA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you the right to know what personal information a business collects about you, its sources and purposes, and with whom it is shared; to access, correct, and delete it; to opt out of its sale or sharing; to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
In the past 12 months we have not collected personal information through the App. The only personal information we may have received is what you chose to include in an email to us (identifiers such as your name and email address, the contents of your message, and device details in a bug report), used only to answer you, as described in Section 7. We do not sell or share personal information, and have not done so, so there is nothing to opt out of. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for any purpose that would give you a right to limit it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Under the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), we disclose that the App does not track you over time or across third-party websites or services, and therefore does not respond differently to "Do Not Track" browser signals. We will post any changes to this Privacy Policy in the App, as described in Section 19.
18. How to Exercise Your Rights
To exercise any of the rights described in Sections 16 and 17, or to ask any question about your personal information, contact us as described in Section 21. We may ask for information needed to confirm that a request about an email is from the person who sent it. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will respond within one month of receiving your request, or sooner if the law requires. To delete the information the App keeps on your device, you do not need to contact us: clear the App's data or uninstall the App.
19. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the App's functionality or for legal or regulatory reasons. If we do, we will update the "Effective date" above and make the revised policy available in the App. Before a material change takes effect, such as the App beginning to collect information it does not collect today, we will notify you in the App and give you an opportunity to review it. Your continued use of the App after a revised Privacy Policy becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of it. If you do not agree to a revised Privacy Policy, stop using the App and uninstall it.
20. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy, and any dispute arising out of or related to it or to the App, is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, and, where applicable, the federal laws of the United States. Disputes are resolved as described in the Terms of Use. This does not take away any rights you have under the privacy laws of the place where you live.
21. Contact Us / Abuse and Complaints
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, wish to exercise your privacy rights, report suspected abuse, or make a complaint regarding the App, please contact us at:
